Doll houses FAQs

What is a doll hospital?

This term is used to describe a company dedicated to both repair and restoration of dolls. In particular, these locations are devoted to caring for antique designs. Many of them have been in operation for decades. Generally, adults are the ones who desire such services, rather than children.

What materials have been used to create dolls?

Over the ages, figurines have been created from pretty much every conceivable material. For example, ancient dolls have been found that were created from wood, stone, clay, and even bone. More recently, plastic, rubber, and vinyl have been used in their creation. Other material examples include bisque, papier-mâché, celluloid, ivory, china, cloth, corn husks, paper, polymer clay, porcelain, resin, wax, and leather.

How old are the earliest dolls known to have movable limbs?

Dolls with movable limbs date back to 200 B.C. as far as current archaeological understanding shows. This is in spite of the fact that they are known to have existed since the dawn of civilization. Removable clothing for dolls is also dated back to this time.
