Doll houses
Doll houses are the imaginative miniature abodes designed
to house a variety of doll designs. Some of these homes are commercially
produced to match a particular figure. On the other hand, some may be
designed for general use with a variety of toys. Still other miniature
homes may be created solely for architectural display. The inclusion
of miniature figurines is not a necessity.
Many doll houses have been created for thousands of years. The oldest
known of such creations are those of ancient Egypt. Although the miniature
houses of today are made primarily for play and occasionally for the
purposes of collecting, these older designs served a religious purpose.
Most doll houses today can trace their design roots back to Europe.
More specifically, they are based off of what were known as "baby
house" in the sixteenth century. Rather than being created for
children, these ornate creations were owned and maintained by adults.
Not just any adults either, only the wealthy could afford them.
